Baptism
Congratulations on the birth of your child. The parish community of St. Kevin’s shares in your joy. We look forward to welcoming your child into our Catholic faith community. Parents are the first educators in faith of their children.
Baptism is the first of the three sacraments of initiation. It is the “basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to the life in the spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments”. The sacrament of baptism is normally celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 3pm. Fr Greene will organize a house visit in the weeks leading up to the baptism. Baptism into the catholic community enhances the faith of the parents, godparents and family.
Some useful Information:
- You will need a white shawl or robe that is put around the baby after they have been baptized.
- You will need a baptismal candle – this should be a candle that is solely for the newly baptized.
- You must have at least one godparent who is a confirmed Roman Catholic and is at least 16 years of age.
If you wish to have your child baptised in St. Kevin’s please contact the parish office to confirm the date and fill in the forms. A copy of the child’s birth certificate will be required.
